A precious new human being...

We are so touched that Mick and Jen [a wonderful couple whose wedding we photographed over a year ago] asked us to photograph their beautiful son, Robert, during his first 2 weeks of life outside the womb.  This sweet little person was so amazing to observe with his deep gaze as he took in the world around him, his cute little wrinkles, and adorable expressions. We feel so lucky to have been invited to document such a special and intimate experience. We couldn't think of a better perk to our job.  Congrats to Mick and Jen on your beautiful, sweet little boy.

Anne and Kelvin's Wedding

This was such a fun day, due to Anne and Kelvin being such a fun, high-energy couple. The ceremony was at the beautiful Immaculata on the USD campus, followed by a photo shoot in Old Town and an awesome reception at the Hilton in Mission Valley. Anne and Kelvin left plenty of time for the photo session, which meant we got to experiement and go to town with creativity. The wedding party was game for anything, which made them great subjects :-) It was a blast. There are lots of great moments we could share from this day, but we thought we'd focus on the photo shoot, where everything came together beautifully: the location, the vibe, the colors, the couple, the bridesmaids and groomsmen. The last couple of images are from the reception where Anne and Kelvin shared their dancing skills. Their first [hula] dance was truly memorable. Also, Anne is an incredible dancer, and she and some members of her dance troupe performed a Taitian dance for the guests.

A cool traditon: the bridesmaids write their names on the bride's shoe. The name left unscuffed at the end of the night is next to wed!

Incredible! I (Bdette) had to remind myself to close my dropped jaw and focus on picture taking :-)

Inspiration...

I'm currently teaching a photography class for the Museum
of Photographic Arts in San Diego. As I prepare slideshows
with the work of influential photographers from the medum's
relatively short history, I am inspired by the vision that
the artists share and the contributions they have made to
photography. This week, we are learning about one of my
favorite photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson. Here's a great
quote from him and some images that have helped to shape
photography as we know it.

"To take photographs means to recognize -- simultaneously
and within a fraction of a second -- both the fact itself
and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms
that give it meaning. It is putting one's head, one's eye
and one's heart on the same axis."
