An East African Wedding

I recently had the honor of attending and photographing one of my student's weddings in San Diego. Asho is a Somali refugee who I have taught photography and writing to since she arrived in the United States in 2005. Her culture is rich with beautiful traditions and so many vibrant colors! The whole Somali Bantu [ethnic group] community in San Diego and Tuscon was invited to the wedding. These people know how to dance! Being the only non-Somali there, I felt as if I stepped into another country! I just feel so honored to have been able to share in and learn from the Somali culture. Thanks Asho!

Veils are so fun!
A British Tradition

Nicholas's family flew out from England and the wedding was infused with some great English touches...morning coat, classic car and fancy hats and feathers! We were excited to learn that the "trunk" of the car is called that because it used to actually be a trunk! Although we still don't know why the British call it the boot! Perhaps this is a wikipedia moment:-)
